About this place
At Nikko, it is tempting to order a rice bowl as well as udon. One lunchtime diner recalled being surprised by the bowl’s juicy texture and soft, silky finish, alongside udon served with dashi broth. Some people find the seasoning on the rice bowls sweet, so tastes may differ. Even so, choices such as katsudon and chicken nanban don offer a satisfying alternative to noodles. The menu also lists chicken nanban don with bukkake udon, a combination that puts the rice bowl centre stage while adding noodles on the side.
For a noodle-focused meal, Uji matcha soba is another option. Diners who have tried it mention the matcha flavour and springy texture; the menu also notes that any dish can be changed to Uji matcha soba for an additional 130 yen. That gives the usual set-meal or noodle combinations another choice. The tonkatsu set meal is listed at 1,040 yen and comes with either soba or udon. Choose between a bowl of noodles and a set meal with tonkatsu, depending on your appetite and what you feel like eating. For something lighter, kitsune, tsukimi and zaru are each listed at 650 yen.
The restaurant is described as suitable for meals from lunch through dinner, including dining alone. Whether you want a substantial set meal at lunchtime or a bowl of noodles, there is room to choose according to the occasion.
